Language and Literacy in Acacia Tree Preschool

Teaching the Whole Child to Read and Write.

Zoo-phonics® Multisensory Language Arts Program is a multi-sensory, multi-intelligence approach to learning all aspects of language arts, including vocabulary development and articulation, based on phonics and phonemic awareness.

This method allows for children in Acacia Tree Preschool to become strong readers and spellers using a “phono” (hearing), “oral” (speaking), “visual” (seeing), “kinesthetic” (moving), and tactile (touching)—whole brain approach. Zoo-phonics® uses animals drawn in the shapes of the letters for ease in memory.

A related body movement is given for each letter along with a song to support the shape, sound and movement of the animal letter.

The animal letters integrate into the calendar, alphabet song, favorite songs, art, music, science, math, dramatic play and physical education. This curriculum in Acacia Tree Preschool is age-appropriate, developmental, sequential and playful.

In the first five years of development, it is essential that children feel cared for and that they learn to care for others as well.

Music and movement, Yoga, exercise and breathing is an important part of Acacia Tree Preschool well-rounded preschool program.

Your child will begin his or her mornings by moving his or her body to the sounds of music and learning calming yoga breaths.  Outside time, your child will encounter classic childhood games like  ‘Simon Says’ or go on a ‘Safari’ or ‘Bear Hunt’ where he or she can pretend to swim across a crocodile-filled river quickly, climb a hill, jump over ravines or run away from a hungry bear or lion.

Or maybe he or she is ‘the animal’ and your little preschooler will walk like different animals as a form of exercise. He or she might hop like a frog, crawl like a crab, waddle like a duck or flap his or her arms to fly like a bird. And then there are the old standbys; running, jumping and spinning just because he or she can!  Exercise is always fun and healthy in Acacia Tree Preschool!

The safety of your child is the most important thing to Acacia Tree Preschool.  We want him or her to be safe away from home too.  We have monthly fire and earthquake drills.  We also invite the Fire Department and the Police Department to visit.

Your child’s vocabulary is key to their safety. We talk to the children all the time… continually teaching them the proper words and names of everyday persons, places and things: Descriptive words, healthy body and dental words, school time words, change of season words, good etiquette words, places to go, how you got there, directional words, identifying and communicating correct amounts and sizes, colors, numbers, animals, feelings and emotions, tactile surfaces, foods you eat and foods animal’s eat and where the food comes from.

The larger your child’s vocabulary the safer your child is in Acacia Tree Preschool.
